FROM ZERO TO UNLIMITED WEALTH
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. 2 Kings 4:1-8.
The scriptures have given us easy principles to follow on what it takes to attain the ultimate financial breakthrough. The hobbies of the Almighty God are doing signs and wonders. Whenever a need arises, Jehovah Jireh presents Himself at the scene to meet it. Your needs provide God with the opportunity to demonstrate His power and greatness. God is constantly searching for embarrassing situations to demonstrate His power and uncommon ability, and to turn hopeless financial situations around.
The interesting thing about our God is that He does not need to struggle in order to make you wealthy. He can turn a pauper into a billionaire overnight. He is in the job of taking people from the lowest positions in life and planting their feet on the highest pinnacle of unlimited wealth.
The presence of God in any situation turns such situations around from negative into positive. When God comes into circumstances, a debtor would become a lender to nations; a widow would become the richest person in the community; those whose survival depends on the rich would begin to lend to the rich. A man who is under heavy bondage of debt can be transformed by God to one who
lends to financial institutions. It only takes an encounter with God.
This chapter began with a beautiful story from the Bible, which illustrates the fact that the poorest can become the richest, and an outcast can become a celebrity. When you have an encounter with God and carry out instructions, your story will become a reference point for the world for good. A widow who had lost every hope had an encounter with God through Elisha, the prophet. The miracle she received altered the course of her life forever.
In order to be catapulted from a zero financial condition to unlimited wealth, there are some lessons we should learn from this widow.
She Desperately Cried for Help
We see from the passage that the journey to the realm of unlimited financial breakthroughs starts with a desperate cry unto God. God is always willing to interfere in our affairs when we cry unto Him for help.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
If you are content with where you are, your prayer will be far from being desperate. But when you are really tired of your condition, you will cry out to God in desperation (Adeboye, 2005). The text above did not record that the widow just had a chat with Elisha. She rather cried unto him because she was in desperate need of a miracle. Also, the widow did not murmur before Elisha, but she cried. She also did not grumble to attract the attention of the prophet. She cried out for divine intervention.
God Answers through His Servants
Each time you cry unto God, He grants your request. When the woman cried to the man of God, he asked her,“What can I do for you?” This demonstrates God’s willingness to answer prayers.
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me Psalm 50:13-14
God makes it no secret that if you cry unto Him, He will answer you. God does not ignore desperate cries from pure hearts. The man of God asked the widow what she wanted, she made her requests known, and God met her at the point of her need. Such will be your portion in Jesus’ name.
God Directed Her
The man of God gave her certain specific instructions. She was told to borrow empty vessels from her neighbours and fill all the vessels with the oil. Your journey to unlimited wealth will begin today, and God will give you step by step guidelines in Jesus’ name.
Whenever God wants to give someone a major breakthrough, He guides the person. Therefore, you must pay attention when God speaks, listening carefully to His instructions. Peter and his colleagues toiled all night and caught no fish. However, when Jesus gave him specific instruction to cast his net into the deep for a catch, he obeyed (Luke 5:1-7). If Peter failed to obey divine instructions he would have missed the miracle.
If you are willing to obey God, He will guide you step by step; one at a time, until you reach the apex of your financial breakthrough (Adeboye, 2005).
God Blessed Her in Her Neighbourhood
The woman was living in a predominantly poor neighbourhood. A closer study of the story suggests that most of her neighbours were poor. This explains why they had lots of empty vessels to spare. What God intends to do for you is that in the midst of the same neighbours you have, you will find your greatest opportunity.
You might not have noticed that you may be living in the midst of opportunities. Where you live right now, there are countless miracles. God will inspire you to discover your miracles around you in Jesus’ name.
There was famine in the land where Isaac was, and he wanted to move out of his neighbourhood. But God specifically instructed him to stay where he was and sow there. He obeyed God, and God prospered him in that land ravaged with famine (Genesis 26:1-14).
In the same vein, God is going to prosper you no matter the economic situation in your country.
Prayer Points
- Oh Lord, cause me to see opportunities for my financial breakthrough, in the name of Jesus.
- My Father, I cry unto you: Change my condition, i’n Jesus name!
- Eternal Rock of Ages, wipe out the trace of poverty in my lineage, in Jesus’ name.
- Almighty God, position me in my place of unlimited prosperity in Jesus’ name.
- Daddy, you are my Source; I receive my financial breakthrough now, in Jesus’ name.
